While many ‘Republicans’ such as John McCain and Paul Ryan are attacking our President for his meeting with Putin, Rand Paul came to his defense. He pointed out the Trump has a right to feel defensive about the partisan investigation against him and that in reality the only person we actually have evidence of colluding with the Russians is Hillary Clinton.
“The president sees the Mueller investigation. He sees all these accusations from partisan Democrats, Hillary Clinton, saying ‘Oh, he colluded with the Russians. The only people who we actually know colluded with the Russians were Hillary Clinton who paid a British agent who paid Russians for information for the dossier,” said Paul.
“Yes, the vast majority of the foreign policy community, the bipartisan consensus said you shouldn’t meet with Putin. They also said he shouldn’t meet with Kim and this is an extraordinary thing about President Trump that should be lauded and not belittled is that he is willing to meet with adversaries to try to prevent us from having World War 3,” said Paul.
“We have to deal with the world as it is, not as we wish it to be, and if we’re only going to talk to people who have perfect constitutional republics, we’re going to have a very small audience and we’re going to have a lot of potential conflicts with no outlet for diplomacy,” said Paul.
“So I think that it is a good idea to have engagement, and I think that what is lost in this, is that I think there’s a bit of ‘Trump derangement syndrome,’” said Paul.
